Welcome to LaMancha Animal Rescue

LaMancha is a privately funded charity (5013c). It was originally formed as an alternative to the slaughterhouse for ex-racehorses. Many of these horses are perfectly sound, but simply too slow to continue racing. Some are injured, but can be healed to make suitable trail riding mounts, show horses, and three day eventers. When horses are accepted into the program, they come to the farm for evaluation. They are schooled for a four to six month period, depending upon their temperment and talent level. They are then offered for adoption to private homes. Please click on "Horses Available" to see the horses that are currently available.

LaMancha is the only federally recognized Karelian Bear Dog rescue. Karelian Bear Dogs were originally bred in Russia and Finland to hunt bear. When Russia invaded Finland during World War II, many people killed their KBD's so they would not be taken. They are considered a national treasure in Finland. They have been imported into this country recently, primarily to assist in eradicating nuisance bears from state and national parks. Karelians are extremely intelligent, and very loyal. They make excellent companions and family dogs in the right environment. They must, however, have enough to keep them busy, and enough room to run. They are not a good choice for small yards or confined environments. Please click on "Dog's Available" to see the current list of dogs available for adoption. These dogs have been screened for temperament and behavioral traits.

LaMancha is a "no-kill" rescue. There are many animals that reside at the farm permanently. In addition to dogs and horses, we also take in the occasional exotic animal that requires more space or specialized knowledge than most SPCA's can offer.

Donations of any kind are welcome; animal feed, equipment, dog beds, toys, etc. All donations are tax deductible
